Pillars Of Non-Obligatory Pilgrimage

Pillars Of Non-Obligatory Pilgrimage

Pillars have great importance in Islam; there are five basic pillars which are obligatory to perform on every Muslim. Same like the pillars of Islam there are some Pillars of umrah too which are known as arkaan of umrah, in the context of Islam, are the base, with which umrah becomes acceptable and valid. A pillar is very important part of ‘ibadah, and if any of pillar is not observed perfectly or accurately may cause the worship to be void.

Fulfilling the pillars of Umrah are actually the formalities and procedures of performing Umrah. A person who is willing to perform umrah should have to fulfil all the conditions which are linked with umrah. Once a person gets in to state of Ihram and enters in the boundaries of makkah, he or she has to observe and follow all the ‘Arkaan’ and conditions of urmah and every person who is there for Umrah should try hard for the acceptance for their all efforts that he or she do for performing Umrah.

There are four basic pillars which are prescribed by Islam for performing Umrah. They are:

  1. Sacred state for umrah, Ihraam, which pilgrims has to wear at the station of Meeqat or before the meeqat boundary. Ihram is necessary to wear in order to perform umrah without wearing Ihram a person even can not cross the boundary of meeqat. For men Ihram is consist of two piece cloth usually of white colour, men can not cover their head. For females Ihram is their own casual clothes but that should be in loosing so not any part of women will be visible or prominent and for this reason females wear Abaya as Ihram which is wear over the casual dress, women are not allowed to cover their face and hands.

  2. Tawaaf or circumambulation around the Holy Kaaba seven times. Tawaaf starts from The Hajr-e-Aswad (The Black Stone). Pilgrims then goes to well of Zamzam to drink blessed water of zamzam.

  3. Saaee is about travelling back and forth between the hills of Safa and Marwah seven times. This is the pillar of Umrah which reminds us the effort of Bibi Hajra for searching water. She ran in the desert’s scorching and burning heat and ran seven times between hills of Safa and Marwah to search some water for Her infant Baby Hazrat Ismaeel (AS).

  4. Halq or Taqseer; this is the last pillar and this symbolizes the end of Umrah. Females trim their hairs from bottom about an inch and males completely shave off their head hairs and after that pilgrim can takes off their Ihram and become free from all the prohibitions of Ihram.
